School Uniform
Please ensure your child arrives to school wearing complete school uniform. School uniform is available for sale at the administration building. Please ensure you buy enough for a daily change. Jeans, sport shoes and sandals are not permitted.
Late Arrival to School
For parents bringing in their own children to school, please note that classes start at 8:30 sharp. All pupils should be at school no later than 8:15. If pupils arrive late, they will miss out on the crucial morning lessons and it is NOT normally possible, when working to a tight schedule, to make up for lost lessons.
Absence
If it is necessary for a pupil to be absent from school, he/she must bring a written explanation from his/her parents or guardian on the day following the absence.
School Buses
The school operates bus services to many parts of Cairo. The cost of this service is not included in the school fees. All journeys are supervised by a bus monitor, and all buses are provided with mobile phones so parents may keep in touch in case of delay. At the beginning of the school year, parents are given information on bus routes, morning pick-up time and bus mobile numbers.
Link Books
Each pupil in the junior school is given a link book. This is a very important link between home and school. Teachers write their comments, the homework required or any information they wish to relate to parents. Please read the book every day and respond to the teachers’ comments and questions. Please feel free to write to the teachers about any matter of concern or any comment you wish to make. A continuous link between home and school is vital for monitoring the progress of our pupils.
Homework policy
Homework is normally given daily in the Primary school (except the first week of the school year). The teacher will write in the link book advising you of the homework required. We ask you just to remind your son / daughter to do their homework but not to help them do it. We want to know what the pupil can achieve on his/her own. We certainly do not want to know how good YOU are at homework!
School Properties
The school provides many things needed during the school day. These items are intended for use inside the school only and should not be taken home. Should your son / daughter bring home any item of school properties, please ensure they are sent back immediately. This particularly applies to younger pupils who may inadvertently take home toys, games, puzzles, etc. Your cooperation in this matter is important.
Reading books and reading schemes
In our effort to encourage pupils to read more, most pupils take home a book every day either from the school library, as part of a reading scheme, or a book that is required for homework. Please remember that many books are imported, expensive and difficult to replace. Please help us in looking after the school books and maintain them in good condition.
Contact with Parents
The school believes that working together with parents encourages both academic and social standards. To this end, we hold regular Parent/Teacher meetings to discuss the progress and ways of helping at home. The school also issues a "News Letter" periodically to inform parents of all events and activities that have taken place and those that are planned for the following period. If parents wish to see the class teacher for any reason, they are welcome to do so by making a prior appointment first with the school secretary, either by telephone or through a note sent with the child.
Parents' Addresses
The school should be informed immediately of any change of address and/or telephone number. It is imperative that the school always has the current telephone number and address of every child. Parents' co-operation in this matter is vital.
Appointments with the Principal
The school Principal welcomes every opportunity to meet with parents. A prior appointment through the school secretary is however required.
School Lunch at the School Restaurant
The CLS operates a lunch programme for pupils where they are served hot cooked meals every day in the school restaurant. The menu contains a variety of healthy and nourishing hot meals which are repeated on a monthly cycle. The minimum period of subscription is one month and it is not possible to buy school lunch at random. Should you wish your child to have lunch daily in the school restaurant, you may subscribe to the school lunch programme. The accounts department will advise you of the cost of this service.
School Cafeteria
A selection of drinks, sandwiches and snacks is available for purchase at the school cafeteria. Pupils’ purchases are supervised by a duty teacher.
Pocket Money
Parents are urged not to send too much pocket money with their children.
School Photographs
Once a year, all pupils will be photographed with their peers and class teachers. These photographs will make a wonderful souvenir to pupils for their time at the Continental Language School and a permanent record of their growth and development. Parents will be notified in advance of the date and cost of this photo session.
Jewellery and other valuables
Pupils, particularly girls, may not wear expensive jewellery at school. Simple gold earrings are about the only acceptable jewellery at school. Expensive necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc are not allowed. Similarly, other expensive items are better kept at home. This may include things such as cash, mobile phones, cameras, personal stereos, etc. While the school takes every measure to safeguard the pupils and their properties, the school is not responsible for lost items of value.
